What is the recommended Storage Temperature (Low/High) for Cards Inventory?

We recommend that NIDS Display Cards are stored between 1°C to +10°C (33°F to 50°F).

Can I use the card in hot or cold climate? What is the recommended Operating Temperature(Low/High)?

The NIDS Display Cards are built to withstand real life conditions and the electronics can operate reliably at temperatures ranging from 5°C to +40°C (41°F to 104°F).

What is the Life Expectancy of the card?

NIDS Display Cards are designed to withstand real life usage conditions and highly resistant to regular wear and tear just like a regular credit card. The cards are EMV certified and passed the stringent MasterCard CSI (Card Structure and Integrity) process.

The embedded electronics are powered by an advanced battery. The life expectancy depends on several criteria such as model (event or timebase); frequency of usage; complexity of user interface;

Is the display card waterproof, will it be damaged if I accidentally drop it in the swimming pool?

The NIDS Display card is manufactured under the same strict conditions as any EMV cards.  


The cards passed the stringent MasterCard CSI (Card Structure and Integrity) certification, ensuring a very durable cardbody and reliable operation that standard payment cards are typically subjected to. 

The NIDS cards have been tested to be waterproof for up to 10ft at room temperature :18°C (64°F) to 23°C (73°F)
 

What if I accidentally spill coffee on the display card? Is it water resistant?

The NIDS Display Cards passed the stringent MasterCard CSI (Card Structure and Integrity) certification and are built to withstand real life usage conditions and will survive common accidental spills.

In fact the cards have been waterproof tested for up to 10ft between temperatures ranging from 18°C (64°F) to 23°C (73°F).

What if I forget the card in my pants or shirt pocket and it goes into the washing machine?

The NIDS Display Cards passed the stringent MasterCard CSI (Card Structure and Integrity) certification and are built to withstand real life usage conditions. The cards should survive conditions within the CSI specifications.

Can the card go through X Ray at an airport facility?

The NIDS Display Card can go through an airports X-Ray security checks without any problem.

We have no indication that a Display Card has ever been damaged going through an X-Ray machine at an airport.

How many digits are displayed on the display?

NIDS Scrolling Display

You can display up to 6 Digits on the display at once.
LCD display versions support scrolling of characters for longer numbers and messages.

How do you display longer messages on the 6-digits screen. Can we scroll information?

Data scrolling is possible on the 6-Digits LCD which has been specifically designed for NID Security for ultra-fast refresh rate operation.

Can we read the display in the dark, is there a backlight?

The specially designed LCD display has been optimized to provide excellent readability under the same lighting conditions required to read the PAN (Personal Account Number) and other information embossed on the card.

The display card screen has been designed without a backlight enabling a battery life of up to 3 years of normal operation.

What happens if I forget the card in my pocket and sit on it, how flexible is the card?

All NID Security cards are designed to withstand real life usage environment and pass the ISO/IEC 10373-1 as well as the stringent MasterCard CSI (Card Structure and Integrity) tests and can be bent reasonably in all axes just like a regular credit card.

The card will still be perfectly operational when subjected to physical stress within these ISO ranges.

Can we write any characters on the display?

The 7-segments screen can display almost all alphanumerical characters with the following exceptions:

K, M, V, W, X, Z. These letters have to be simulated within the 7 segments limitations

Keys on such a thin card are difficult to use, why is the NagraID touch keypad better?

NIDS Touch Display Card

The NIDS Display Card is the only card on the market that is equipped with an innovative TOUCH keypad.

Unlike mechanical keys, TOUCH technology provides a frustration free experience and is very easy to operate.

The NIDS TOUCH keypad has been fine-tuned to operate by simply touching with your fingertip while still providing reliable registration.

The TOUCH keypad display card fits in a wallet, provides an unprecedented level of functionality and convenience by eliminating the hassle of carrying bulky calculator/tokens.

Putting a computer in such a thin card is amazing, how is it powered, is there a battery inside?

The NIDS Display Card embeds a specially designed thin and flexible battery.

The battery is not user-replaceable or serviceable but will typically outlast the lifetime of the card as it lasts at least 3-years under normal operating conditions.

Is the battery toxic?

What to do if the card stops working?

Warranty and Replacement
NID Security provides world-class warranty and service for our products.
Depending on models, the cards may carry up to 3-years manufacturer replacement warranty.

Please note that each issuer might have their own warranty policies, and you should contact your provider for their specific terms and conditions.

Functionality and Operation
The 6-digits NIDS Display Cards are programmed to  display a "LoVolt" (Low Voltage) warning message well before the battery completely drains out. When this message appears you can still use the card and will typically still have plenty of time to obtain a replacement card.

When the card is a few hundreds usage cycles away from exhaustion, an "ESoon" (Empty Soon) warning message will also be displayed, giving you enough time to initiate a replacement.

In addition to the above mentioned features, most card issuers also provide secondary procedures in the unlikely event that your card stops functioning or breaks down before you received a replacement. The procedures may include a Service Phone HOTLINE, One Time Use Emergency Password, or alternative methods to unlock your service.

How do I switch ON the card?

The NIDS Display Card has a mechanical Power-On switch located on the lower corner of the card.

This switch has been precisely calibrated to avoid unintentional Power-On, helping extend the battery life of the card (eg: card in a tight wallet, or in a tight pocket).

In addition to the power switch, our Multiple-Button card is equipped with a TOUCH keypad with up to 12 programmable buttons. The NIDS Touch Display Card is the first and only card on the market providing this innovative technology, providing a frustration free user experience.

Can I put the card along with my other cards in my wallet?

The NID Security Display cards have been designed to provide maximum convenience and functionality (Payment, Strong Online Authentication, Physical Authentication).


The cards have the exact same form factor as a regular credit card and can be stored along other cards in your wallet.

Can I buy white cards?

The NID Security Display Cards are available as blank white cards on which you can print custom artworks such as Photo ID.

Please note that the NIDS Display Cards are compatible with a limited number of printers. Evaluations and tests are currently being undertaken by our laboratories.

Is the card available as a credit card?

Our display cards are MasterCard CSI (Card Structure and Integrity) certified which meets or exceed the reliability and durability requirements for a payment card.

The NIDS Display Card can function as a regular credit/debit card, and also provide One Time Password, challenge/response & digital signature (Multiple button TOUCH series), physical access control (Mifare, HID) resulting in an unprecedented convenient multifunction device that fits in a wallet.

Is a color display available?

The display is available in black over light gray only.

Can I move the display to another location on the card?

The display location cannot be moved. It is standardized across the various models and  is conveniently located at specific locations on the card to ensure maximum reliabilty and minimum disruptment of card visual design and maximize available usable area for elaborate and high impact artwork.

Can I shred the card?

The cards should NOT be shredded.

Just like any device that embeds a battery, precautions and safe disposal should be respected. To destroy a used card, please cut along the dotted lines as indicated on the back.

Can I punch a hole in the card?

The NIDS Display Card is a very versatile product. It can be used as a payment device and is also ideal for corporate badges as a physical and logical authentication device. As such, it is safe to punch holes in the cards at specific locations so it can be attached to a lanyard clip.

These zones vary from model to model because of the different electric layouts.

Can the card be mailed?

We recommend the use of padded envelopes in order to ensure that the card does not have any physical deformation when the end client receives it.

NID Security Display Cards have been tested to resist the bending/compression through standard US mailing sorting machines. However, not all sorting machines are calibrated equal, thorough end-to-end testing is highly recommended.

Does the card have a signature panel?

Yes, NID Security display cards support features such as a signature panel (Secure/NonSecure), which can be placed at predefined zones.

We provide design guidelines and templates to our clients about the positioning of these elements before starting production.

In addition to signature panel capability, the NIDS Display Card can be customized with a wide array of options:

- Embossing
- Secure /Non Secure hologram
- Contact Chip perso
- Contactless Chip Perso
- 2 or 3 Tracks magnetic stripe
- Laser Engraving / Indent printing

My bank can send my passcode directly to my mobile phone. Why should I use the NIDS Display Card?

Unlike SMS based OTPs, the NIDS Display Card is very convenient as it does not require any network coverage to operate and can therefore be used anywhere anytime. You will not run into situations where you cannot access your account because you are in a building where cellular network cannot get through, or when travelling abroad. Operating the NIDS Display Card is also very cost effective as there are no roaming charges. 

The Display Card also enable true out of band authentication as the card is physically disconnected from any network, providing an added layer of security if you are using your smartphone to login into online services.

What is the Maximum Relative Humidity (Non-condensing)?

The NIDS Display Cards passe tne Card Structure and Integrity (CSI), and will operate normally if exposed to accidental spills or drops in water. Please wipe it dry as soon as possible.

Can the battery be replaced?

The NIDS Display Card uses a specially designed NON user-replaceable/serviceable thin and flexible battery which has been embedded via a special process that enables reliable operation in real life utilization environment while also providing maximum safety for the cardholder by virtually eliminating hazards such as leakage.

This design enables the card to be produced with exactly the same credit card ISO thickness and also to typically outlast the lifetime of the card.

How do I access my account if the card stops responding?

Most card issuers also provide secondary procedures in the unlikely case that your card stops functioning or breaks down before you received a replacement. The procedures may include a Service Phone HOTLINE, One Time Use Emergency Password, or alternative methods to unlock you service.
Please contact your card issuer for the specific mechanism and procedure associated to your account.

The NIDS Display Cards have passed electromagnetic interference and radio interference tests and comply with other safety and environmental standards.

The display card has been designed to be carried conveniently in a wallet, which is often in close proximity to a mobile phone.

We have no indication that the card will interfere with cellphone operation.

Does the card emit radio frequency information?

The cards can be manufactured with various types of RFID transponders such as MIFARE or HID which makes it a very versatile device providing both logical and physical access authentication.

The RFID in our cards is protected by Mifare Keys or EMV mechanisms in order to provide the highest security available.

You need to bring a card within 3cm (1.25") of a reader in order to use the card.

Does the card give my location or any private information ?

The cards can be equipped with various types of RFID transponders such as MIFARE, HID which makes it a very versatile device providing logical and physical access authentication.
Besides RFID the tag number that can only be read within a 3cm range, no private information is broadcasted and there it is not equipped with geographic location element.

Furthermore the RFID in our cards are protected by Mifare Keys or EMV mechanisms to provide the highest security available.

Do I need a network to use the card?

The card itself is fully operational and does not require a network to operate. It is physically disconnected from any network, providing true out of band authentication, which is an added layer of security.

Unlike SMS based OTPs, the card does not need network coverage to operate and can therefore be used anywhere, anytime, whether you are in a building with no cellular coverage, or when travelling abroad. Operating the NIDS Display Card is also very cost effective since there are no roaming charges.  

Can I print text or a picture on the card using my home or office printer?

Is the card CE certified?

Yes. As consumer devices, NIDS Display Cards have been designed to meet the highest safety standards for end users. The manufacturing processes have also been optimized to minimize environmental impact.

The CE certification is only one amongst numerous other certifications and compliance directives (UL, RoHS, electromagnetic compatibility, immunity, safety,...) that our cards meet.

Is the card UL certified?

Yes, UL certification is one of the numerous other certifications and compliance directives (RoHS, electromagnetic compatibility, immunity, safety,...) that our cards meet.

Also, as a consumer device, the NIDS Display Cards have been designed in order to ensure they meet the highest safety standards for the end users and we optimized our manufaturing processes to minimize environmental impact.

Can we have more than one RF protocol in the card?

The card has a highly optimized electronic layout that allows the addition of a second RFID Transponder, effectively providing increased versatility.

 

Can I embed an independent EMV or PKI chip on the card?

Yes, as long as they meet standard industry ISO sizes.

NID Security provides cards at different finish stages.
Operations such as logical perso, chip embedding and physical perso can be completed by any EMV certified or similarly equipped personalization bureaus. 

What algorithms are available?

The NIDS Display Card platform is compatible with the major security algorithms. They can be preconfigured with MasterCard CAP or OATH. Custom algorithms are also possible; contact us at developer@nidsecurity.com

What technology is the display using?

Our cards are equipped with a flexible, low power display panels. Depending on models, we employ either LCD or electronic paper technologies to meet specific requirements. 

LCD provides ultra-fast refresh rates that enable scrolling of long messages and excellent readability under diverse lighting conditions with minimal power consumption. 

Can I hide/not use some buttons on the key pad?

Yes, each button on the TOUCH keypad can be programmed, enabled/disabled individually at the firmware level. The buttons can therefore be removed from your custom artwork that will be printed on the card in order to match the keypad function.

Can the card be mailed?

Can I print text or a picture on the card using my home or office printer?

NIDS sample ID badges

Yes. The NID Security Display Card is available in blank white finish so that you can print your own custom artwork with commercially available desktop printers.

Please be advised that a limited number of printers can be used with our NID Security Dispay Card and are currently under evaluation and testing for compatibility.

Can I emboss the card?

Yes the card can be embossed in predesignated zones and are perfect for payment applications such as Credit or Debit.

In addition to embossing capability, the NIDS Display Card can be customized with a wide array of options:

- 2 or 3 Track magnetic stripe
- Laser Engraving / Indent printing

Can I laser engrave the card?

Yes, the card can be laser engraved or indent printed in the front and rear and is ideal for applications such as Credit / Debit card, Corporate badges, Student badges.

Since the NIDS Display Card can be customized with various options such as Embossing, 2 or 3 track Magnetic Stripe, Signature Panel, Holographic Stamp, EMV Contact chip ..., the safe engraving zones vary for each card model depending on the positioning of the abovementioned optional elements.

Can I indent print the card?

Yes, cards can be indent printed in the front and rear within predesignated embossable zones (usually single button models). Display Cards are ideal for applications such as Credit / Debit card, Corporate badges, Student badges. 

 

Note: If permanent customization is required outside predesignated embossable zones, Laser engraving is the only supported imaging technology.

 

Since the NIDS Display Card can be customized with various options such as Embossing, 2 or 3 tracks Magnetic Stripe, Signature Panel, Holographic Stamp, EMV Contact chip ..., the safe indent zones vary for each card model depending on the positioning of the abovementioned optional elements.

Can I have my own artwork on the card?

A minimum order quantity of 1000 cards is necessary in order to produce custom artwork cards cost effectively.

Of course it is possible to print custom artwork in lower quantities, but due to the nature of offset printing technology, there will be a separate setup fee.

Another option is to order White/Blank cards and print your custom artwork with a commercial printer.
Please note that print quality results vary from printer to printer and we are currently evaluating several brands and models for compatibility.

How long does it take to produce a card?

Cards with standard NIDS artwork are typically immediately available.

The turnaround for custom artwork is very fast: it takes approximately 8 weeks from setup time till delivery.

The timing may vary depending on existing production workload and complexity of elements and personalization of the cards.

Can the NIDS logo be removed from the back of the card?

The logo on the back of the card cannot be removed.
It helps in visually identifying the card manufacturer.

We positioned this small logo on the back of the card in the upper left corner, it occupies a small 9x2 mm area so as to be unobtrusive, leaving maximum surface area for issuer artwork.

Can I customize the display?

All cards currently embed a 6-Digit, 7 segment LCD display and have a predefined set of displayed messages and information. Standard catalog models are not customizable.
In order to display proprietary messages, a custom firmware would need to be developed.

Does the card have a signature panel?

Yes, NID Security display cards support features such as a signature panel (Secure/NonSecure), which can be placed at predefined zones.
